Not Changing the Toothbrush Often Enough

Many people have heard folks claim, almost boastfully, that they can’t remember the last time they changed their toothbrush. This is not only gross but unhygienic, especially for a person who wears braces. Even a person who wears Invisalign, where the trays can be removed for oral hygiene, need to change their toothbrushes regularly.

The fact is that whenever a person brushes their teeth the toothbrush picks up all sorts of bacteria, viruses, and pathogens. Some of these are able to live on the bristles for weeks, and even if they don’t normally cause illness they can lead to infection if they enter a lesion in the mouth.
