The new innovation of the Invisalign brand is Invisalign Teen. These are custom-made plastic and invisible aligners used as an alternative to metal braces for teeth straightening. This Invisalign option provides additional features like blue dot wear, an indicator that will fade as soon as the aligner is worn out or needs to be replaced, and eruption tabs for cases where second molars appear.
Applications of Invisalign

Treatment Procedure for Invisalign
During the consultation, Dr. McDermott will take impressions and pictures of your teeth and produce a digital image. He will then use 3D technology to trace tooth movements at the start and end of your treatment. This will help him create customized aligners. The average treatment lasts one year.
The Invisalign Teen aligners will be designed to suit your treatment schedule and to fit perfectly on your teeth. You are required to wear them daily for 20-22 hours. You will replace your aligners after every two weeks or after the indicator begins to fade.
Invisalign Teen works by moving your teeth gradually every 7 days. You will need to visit McDermott Orthodontics after 8 weeks so that Dr. McDermott can determine your progress.
Invisalign Teen Versus Traditional Treatments
When undergoing orthodontic treatment with Invisalign Teen, a patient has the freedom to continue with his/her lifestyle and engage in sporting activities. Conventional braces are known for the stigma of looking noticeable, unattractive and leaving teenagers with self-conscious feelings and making them afraid of smiling.
Traditional braces are challenging when it comes to flossing and brushing and contribute to a build-up of plaque and food in a patient’s mouth. Patients can easily remove Invisalign Teen aligners and therefore they do not irritate the gums or mouth or cause pain. They also promote good oral hygiene.
Traditional braces require patients to visit the orthodontist when a bracket gets broken. Invisalign aligners for teens come with six extra aligners for replacement in case the original aligners are misplaced or damaged.
The application method of braces and Invisalign are different. Patients cannot remove braces in the course of treatment because they are permanent. The braces are taken out by the orthodontist when a patient’s teeth reach the targeted positions. Invisalign aligners are not permanent, patients can remove them daily when eating or during other activities such as playing sports or wind instruments in the school band.
Cost of Invisalign Teen
The price for having Invisalign aligners for teenagers is about the same cost as traditional braces.
In case you are a teenager or have a teen who is dealing with self-esteem issues due to the appearance of his/her teeth, Invisalign Teen is the appropriate solution. This treatment has a great advantage over traditional treatments because the braces are invisible, removable and affordable. You can count on Dr. Mike McDermott of McDermott Orthodontics with offices in Brainerd, Delano, Pequot Lakes and Baxter to offer quality orthodontic care.
