Smile as much as you can
Your smile is key to a good first impression. Make sure yours is beautiful and healthy. Crooked and overcrowded teeth are not only distracting but can also lead to poor dental health if not addressed.
An orthodontist is a dental specialist with specialized education beyond dental school encompassing the complexities of treating misaligned teeth. Their expert knowledge of tooth, jaw and facial anatomy is used daily.
An orthodontist assesses patients who have problems with the way the teeth are growing in or with teeth that are shifting or have shifted. Lower teeth can be incorrectly growing over top teeth with an under bite or top teeth can be growing more outward than they should, which is an overbite.
Orthodontists use braces of a few types to correct these malformations and to straighten crooked teeth. After a full examination and assessment, they will assist you in deciding which options are best including Invisalign. All bracing requires maintaining good oral hygiene.
Different Options
Traditional metal bracing requires wires that need to be adjusted regularly while slowing moving teeth into the correct position. They are very effective and work quite well while being much smaller and less bulky than they were even just ten years ago. This option is the least expensive and requires the least amount of rechecks during treatment. Metal braces work best for the teeth that are in need of a higher degree of movement and vertical movement.
Clear and ceramic braces work nearly as well as metal, but they are an advantage as being less conspicuous. This may be a better option for those patients who are adults and out in the workplace.
The Invisalign option is nearly invisible and can be removed for eating and cleaning. These work best for a minor straightening of teeth and for maintenance.
