If you are unhappy with the appearance of your misaligned teeth, then choose to begin each day with a simple smile after wearing braces. Mild to moderate malocclusions of the teeth are easy to correct with invisible aligners that are worn for 6-15 months. Aligners feel comfortable to wear and are easy to remove while eating or brushing teeth.
While it is acceptable to remove aligners for special occasions occasionally, you will get the best and fastest results by wearing the device for at least 23 hours a day and night. Each set of aligners is worn for two weeks before switching to a new set. Aligners are customized with each set slightly different, to shift teeth into correct positions and to close unattractive gaps.
You are still required to visit an orthodontist every six weeks to make sure the aligners are working properly to get a beautiful and simple smile. When the aligners are not shifting your teeth fast enough or feel uncomfortable, an orthodontist can create new molds with computer imaging machines to make more appropriate aligners.
After your first visit to an orthodontist, you will know if traditional metal braces are needed to repair severe malocclusions. Old-fashioned metallic wires and brackets are an excellent option for straightening teeth, and modern ones work faster with many patients only needing to wear the devices for two to three years. An orthodontist can also place metal braces on the backs of your teeth to make the devices less noticeable to others.
